When I first started learning English, my notebook was full of things I didn’t understand.
That’s how WakaranEng was born — from confusion, not perfection.

“Wakaran (わからん)” means I don’t understand in Japanese.
But for us, it also means we’re ready to learn.
That simple phrase — “I don’t get it yet” — became the seed of this project.

I’m Huynh, from Wakaran English — one of the people behind this small but growing project.
I’m currently living and working in Japan, and like many learners here,
I’ve been through the frustration of wanting to understand more, but not knowing how.

This blog is my way of recording not just code or updates,
but the process of turning that frustration into creation — together with my team.

🌐 A small team across four countries

We are a group of five friends from Vietnam, Japan, Myanmar, and China.
Each of us comes from a different background, different language, different rhythm of life.
But there was one thing that quietly connected us — Western music.

We all loved singing along to English songs, even when we didn’t fully understand the lyrics.
Somehow, that shared curiosity became our bridge.
From there, we started to talk about how English isn’t just a language —
it’s a tool to connect, create, and express across borders.

So we decided to build something small but alive —
a space where people like us could learn and grow with the Internet, not just from it.
That’s how WakaranEng.com began.

🎥 YouTube as our main stage

Before the website, we started a YouTube channel — it’s still our main content platform now.
We wanted a place that feels alive: where learning English happens through voices, reactions, and emotions — not grammar drills.
The website was meant to be the home base,
the place where every video, every idea, and every “I don’t understand yet” could live in one ecosystem.

In the next Develop Note (#2), I’ll write about the technical side —
how we built the site, how we kept it accessible, and why we think designing for both humans and AI matters.
But before that, this post is for something simpler:
to remind us that learning always begins with a small, honest sentence —

“I don’t understand… yet.”
